Refurbishment and Demolition Asbestos Assessments (Division 6 in Victoria)

Hazardous Materials

Prior to any refurbishment or demolition works taking place, an intrusive site assessment (referred to as a Division 6 Assessment) must be conducted. Given the destructive nature of refurbishment and demolition works there is an increased potential for human exposure to hazardous substances. As such, the purpose of a Division 6 Assessment is to identify all asbestos items likely to be disturbed during proposed works.

Edge specialises in conducting Division 6 Assessments on all kinds of structures and facilities, with the inclusion of other hazardous materials depending on the specific requirements of the site.

Other hazardous materials the Edge commonly incorporates into Division 6 Assessments include:

  • Lead based products (including paint)
  • Ozone depleting substances
  • Polychlorinated biphenyls
  • Mercury
  • Synthetic mineral fibres
  • Treated pine materials
  • MDF

Division 6 Assessment reports are often relied upon by demolition and refurbishment contractors when preparing quotations. As such, the integrity of these reports is critical in ensuring that demolition and refurbishment projects are completed in time and within budget.
